Harmon Associates, a division of Georgia-Pacific, is one of the largest paper recyclers in the world. The company purchases fibers globally including corrugated, newsprint and office paper, as well as metals and plastics, supplying in excess of 100,000 tons per week. GP mills turn the recycled fiber into everyday products including toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, communication papers and corrugated boxes.
Georgia-Pacific’s tissue converting plant at Toluca, Mexico, was inducted into Mexico’s Industria Limpia (Clean Industries) environmental excellence program. This government program recognizes companies that protect the environment, preserve natural resources and promote sustainable manufacturing practices.
Georgia-Pacific’s Conway, N.C., resin and formaldehyde facility was accepted into the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Environmental Performance Track program. Performance Track facilities are required to consistently exceed state and federal environmental regulatory requirements, work closely with their communities, and excel in protecting the environment and public health through continuous improvement projects. Other GP facilities in the NEPT program are Albany, Ore.; Columbus, Ohio; Russellville, S.C.; and Vienna, Ga.
